about

Recorded in 2009 by the dashing Andrew Gardiner and issued in 2010, 'My Funny Social Crime' was Milky Wimpshake's 4th LP (unless you count the cassette from 1993, which some fans do). Coming after a 5 year gap since the previous album, the CD (Wimpshake's only ever non-vinyl release other than the 1993 cassette) received mixed reviews: 'hardly the epitome of development' complained one, which is fair enough, but as said reviewer also acknowledged, Wimpshake never intended to re-invent the wheel. Actually, there are some oddities here: 3 songs featuring cello (two of which have Pete playing said instrument, after he mended a cello with one string and no bridge which he found in a cupboard in the school he worked in, and then half-taught himself to play it) and other odd instrumental aspects. More notable is a guest vocal performance from Amelia Fletcher, Pete's favourite singer from his teenage years, what an honour! Pete even made a video for 'Cherry Pop', which some fans seemed to think was/is a sell-out; 'whatevs', my dears. Oh, and did I mention that our first recording was cassette only in 1993? x
